Medicinal Cannabis
Cannabinoids, the major active ingredient in medicinal cannabis , are naturally occuring compounds in the Cannabis plant. Over 100 cannabinioids are found in the plant. The most extensively studied and prescribed in medicinal cannabis ,are Cannabidiol ( CBD) and Delta-9-tetrahydrocannibinol ( THC) . These are formulated as oils, capsules or dried flower.
CBD is not psychoactive and there are numerous clinical studies demostrating CBD’s role in management of seizures, pain and even anxiety disorders. THC besides being psychoactive , may have therapeutic effects, including pain and nausea relief , relief of musle spasm and improving appetite.
Terpenes are also present in the plant and together with the cannabinoids form what’s termed the “entourage effect”.
Together, THC, CBD and the Terpenes may benefit a range of conditions.
